Personal Tax Returns for Business Owners · Austin, TX · Serving business owners nationwide

Your company’s income ends up on your personal return. We prepare both, so they tell the same story.

When you own a company, your personal return depends on K-1s, salary, distributions, and decisions made on the company side. Preparing the two returns separately leaves room for gaps and missed savings. We prepare them together as part of your relationship with us, with one person who understands both.

Personal returns for the owners we already serve

We prepare personal returns for owners whose companies we also work with, often owners of several entities. We keep our client list small on purpose, so we don’t take on standalone personal returns. That’s what lets us give each owner our full attention.

What’s included when we prepare your personal return

  • K-1s matched to the company returns. We prepare your company’s return and your personal return from the same numbers, so nothing has to be reconciled later.
  • Salary and distributions handled correctly. We make sure what you took out of the company is reported the right way on both returns.
  • Ownership basis tracked over time. We keep a running record of your investment in each company, which determines how losses and distributions are taxed.
  • Estimated payments planned in advance. We set quarterly payments based on how your company is performing, so April doesn’t bring a surprise.

Two preparers, two sets of assumptions, and nobody looking at the whole picture

When one person prepares the company’s return and someone else prepares yours, each works with different information. A K-1 arrives late and holds up your filing. Distributions get reported differently on each return. A deduction available to owners of pass-through companies goes unclaimed because neither preparer saw the full picture. When we handle both, those gaps close, and you have one person to call with any question.

The rest of your return comes along too.

Your personal return includes more than your company. We also handle your household’s other income and deductions, including a spouse’s wages, investments, rental property, and charitable giving. If your company does business outside Texas, we check whether you owe returns in those states as well.

How your personal return fits into the year

  1. Company returns first. We finish your company’s return and K-1, so your personal return has final numbers to work from.

  2. Gather the rest.We send a short list of what we need for the household side, based on what you had last year.

  3. Review together.Eric walks you through both returns before anything is filed, so you understand what you owe and why.

  4. Plan the year ahead. We set your estimated payments and flag decisions worth making before December 31.

Sit down with us and go over both returns at once.

After your free consultation, we are glad to meet in person anywhere in the Greater Austin area to review your company and personal returns together. Owners anywhere else in the country do the same by phone and video.
